AstraZeneca has reported that it has received a positive response to the prescription of sildenafil, the generic version of the prescription drug Viagra, as well as the generic version of the prescription drug Cialis. The company's stock rose 5.4% on Wednesday morning. Sildenafil, the generic version of Viagra, has been available in capsule form since July 2018.

Sildenafil and Cialis are currently in the process of being tested as "pharmaceutical alternatives" to Viagra and are expected to be approved for use by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The company's shares fell 1.6% yesterday, trading at a new record high.
